Weekly Club Runs
Tuesday 6:30 p.m. Track (Speed) Workouts
Summer: Northport HS Outdoor Track, Northport, NY
Winter: Northport HS Outdoor Track, Northport, NY
This event is a staple of the NRC activities, and is geared towards ability of all levels. Typically anywhere between 15 and 40 members (and guests) attend.
The workouts include a 1-mile warm-up, an organized track workout, and a 1-mile cool-down. During the workout we do intervals of varying distances (200 meters to 1 mile), each followed by a slow jog "recovery" which allows runners of all abilities to regroup before the next interval. There is usually plenty of competition for the front of the pack (5 - 6 min/mile pace), however, this workout is not just for the fleet of feet. You can always find someone that does your pace (7-10 min/mile pace) and on most nights there are runners that simply jog (fast runners please excuse the term) around the outside of the track, in lieu of running on the roads. The event can be grueling workout, or an easy recovery from an injury, depending on your preference.
Following the workout, one can find most runners ingesting refreshments in a local pub, nursing injuries, talking about upcoming races, planning future events, and (hopefully) talking about things that have nothing to do with running.
Thursday 6:15pm - Run at Super Runners Shop in Huntington Village
Multiple paces and distances .. a 25 year tradition;
Saturday 7:00 a.m.or 8:00 a.m. Cross Country and longer runs
Summer: 7:00 a.m. (fast) - Sunken Meadow State Park, Field 1, Kings Park 8:00 a.m. (moderate) Kings Park LIRR Station
Winter: Both groups - Sunken Meadow State Park, Field 1, Kings Park
During the winter months when there when there is no charge for parking, both runs start at Sunken Meadow State Park. Each run varies from 6-8 miles depending on the week. The pace for the 7:00 am group varies from 6:30 - 8:00 minute miles while the pace for the 8:00 a.m. group varies from 8:00 - 10:00+ minute miles.
During the summer months (mid May to mid November) the 8:00 a.m. group starts at the Kings Park L.I.R.R. Station (the 7:00 a.m. group stays at Sunken Meadow - it's before the toll collectors arrive)
The Saturday runs go through Sunken Meadow Park, Kings Park & San Remo, and vary from 6 to 8 miles. During July, August and September these runs sometimes wind up in the 12-20 mile range for those that are training for Fall Marathons (there are quite a few places to cut it short if you’re not up to it , or the weather gets too hot).
At the end of the runs after changing the runners get a bagel and coffee breakfast at the local bagel shop (Bagel King) on Main Street in Kings Park.
Sunday 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. Fun Runs - Various distances and speeds
Year round: 7:30 (fast) Copenhagan Bakery, Northport, NY 8:00 (moderate) Laurel Ave School, Northport, NY
These runs generally are "recovery or fun runs". These are usually leisurely paced runs of 7:30 to 8:30 minutes/mile for the 7:30 a.m. group and 9:30 to 10:30 minutes/mile for the 8:00 a.m. group. Some of the courses take us through/to downtown Northport, the Northport "Pits", Crab Meadow Beach, Makamah Beach, Middleville, Fort Salonga, Greenlawn, Centerport and East Northport.
Once a month (typically the 4th Sunday of each month) at 8:00am, the club has a "Change of Scenery" run. This run replaces the normal Sunday Morning Training Run. The group has traveled to Smithtown, Huntington Bay, Selden, Farmingdale, Caumsett State Park, Blydenburgh Park etc., for a "Change of Scenery Run".
At the end of the runs after changing into dry clothes the group gets breakfast at a local bakery, diner or pancake house to replace those lost carbohydrates.

The Northport Running Club holds monthly meetings at 7:30pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month. For all but the Summer months (June, July, August and September) the meetings are held at the Northport American Legion Hall on Woodside Avenue, just east of Main Street in downtown Northport.
During the Summer months the meetings are held a various member’s homes, usually with BBQ’s and pool activities. At the meetings we not only resolve the club’s business matters, we also make plans for future running events, club races, outings, parties, etc.. We invite any potential new member to join us at our meetings to find out how to join the club.
The meetings are an excellent place to meet other club members, pick up club apparel, coordinate teams and rides to races, or just sit back and have some refreshments. Guest speakers are invited and talk about races and running events, conditioning, health and injuries.
