The Joe Latino Winter Relays have been a mainstay of winter running on Long Island ever since it was started by Joe Latino, one of Northport Running Clubs founding members. First run in 1980, this annual 6x2 mile relay, held in late February or March, has always had the reputation of some of the best running fun on the worst day of winter. The last few years have broken tradition, and have had some exceptional warm February weather. If you have yet to do the relays, get yourself together 6 runners and come on down. The race gets some exceptionally fast teams, as well as many teams that just longing for the camaraderie of a team event. We've tried to keep the event a low-keyed event, and charge a minimal amount just to offset some of the race expenses. We offer a large number of team awards, some nice refreshments including the ever-popular clam chowder, and simply a great running event.
The 2008 race is sceduled for March 22nd. I know its on the cusp of Spring, but we had schedule conflicts for earlier in the season.
