Joe Latino Winter Relays (4x2 Mile)
After an assessment of the condition of the race course and consultation with the Park Superintendent
we regret to announce that the Northport Running Club’s Joe Latino Winter 4 x 2 Mile Relays, which
had been scheduled for this Saturday, February 22nd, has been Postponed until Saturday, March 8th
due to the harsh winter snow & ice. Despite the forecasted rain and some “warm” weather the course
is very ice and snow laden now and is unlikely to be in reasonable shape for Saturday. The safety
and enjoyment of the runners is paramount and thus the tough but prudent decision was reluctantly made.
If your team has already registered, that registration is still valid for March 8th. If you have
already registered but cannot make the race on March 8th, we will be happy to refund your entry fee –
just let me know.
On the other hand there is still time to sign your team up for the new date if you haven’t already done so.
The entry fee is still only $30 for preregistered teams and for all teams who wait until after March 3
and until and including race day registration will be $40.

The Joe Latino Winter Relays have been a mainstay of winter running on Long Island
ever since it was started by Joe Latino, one of Northport Running Clubs founding members.
First run in 1980, held in late February, has always had the reputation of some of the
best running enjoyment on the worst weather day of winter. Some of the last few years
have broken tradition, and have had some exceptional warm February weather. Originally
a 6x2 mile relay, in 2009 we reduced the number of runners needed to form
a team to 4 runners so that more teams can participate. If you have yet to do the relay,
get yourself together with 3 other runners and come on down. The race gets some
exceptionally fast teams, as well as many teams that just longing for the camaraderie
of a team event. We've tried to keep the event a low-keyed event, and charge a minimal
amount just to offset some of the race expenses. We offer a large number of team awards,
some nice refreshments including the ever-popular clam chowder, and simply a great running event.
