JOE
LATINO WINTER RELAYS
The Joe Latino Winter Relays have been a
mainstay of winter running on Long Island ever since it was started by Joe Latino, one of
Northport Running Clubs founding members. First run in 1980, held in late February, has
always had the reputation of some of the best running enjoyment on the worst weather day of
winter. Some of the last few years have broken tradition, and have had some exceptional
warm February weather. Originally a 6x2 mile relay, this year (2009) we've reduced the
number of runners needed to form a team to 4 runners so that more teams can
participate. If you have yet to do the relay, get yourself together with 3 other
runners and come on down. The race gets some exceptionally fast teams, as well as many
teams that just longing for the camaraderie of a team event. We've tried to keep the event
a low-keyed event, and charge a minimal amount just to offset some of the race expenses.
We offer a large number of team awards, some nice refreshments including the ever-popular
clam chowder, and simply a great running event.
