THE
DOUG WOOD MEMORIAL 8K CROSS COUNTRY RACE
Saturday April 12, 2008
9:00 am Rain or Shine
Crabmeadow Beach
Northport, New York
Now becoming an established spring running event, this 8K cross country race is again
being held in memory of a long-time Northport Running Club member Doug Wood, who passed
away a few years back doing what most of us love - running. This race starts and finishes
at the Crab Meadow Beach, and includes a 3-mile section of some really nice scenic cross
country trails. Race application will be available on-line and at Active.com.
The Wood Run is a spectacular way to shake off the winter fat. The race will draw both
athletes and hikers looking for a challenge. Walkers are welcome. Doug Wood ran the
Makamah Trails because of the wide variety of routes, views and wildlife. This venue has
it all: Challenging trails, Fast straight paths, Water views and a sprint finish at the
Long Island Sound. Run it once and you will want to come back.
Benefit: The funds raised from this event will go to the Doug Wood Scholarship Fund. This
annual award will be presented to a graduating male and female Northport High School
athlete (chosen by the NHS director of athletics) to financially aide in their college
goals.
Course Description: The race starts and ends at Crabmeadow Beach by the pavillion and
includes an 8k Loop combination of flat paved road and three miles of trails in the
Makamah County Nature Preserve. The course offers both flat and hilly trails along the
Crabmeadow Golf course and views of Long Island Sound. The Kids Fun Run will be held in
the Finish Line area.

receive t-shirts while supplies last.
