THE DOUG WOOD MEMORIAL 5K CROSS COUNTRY RACE

Saturday April 10th, 2010
9:00 am Rain or Shine
Norwood Road School
25 Norwood Rd., Northport, New York

Now becoming an established spring running event, this cross country race is again being held in memory of a long-time Northport Running Club member Doug Wood, who passed away a few years back doing what most of us love - running. This year the race will start and finish at the Norwood Avenue School, rather than at Crab Meadow Beach, as it has been in previous years.  The 5K run will be entirely cross country and includes some very challenging and scenic cross country trails. Race application will be available on-line and at Active.com.

The Wood Run is a spectacular way to shake off the winter fat. The race will draw both athletes and hikers looking for a challenge. Walkers are welcome. Doug Wood ran the Makamah Trails because of the wide variety of routes, views and wildlife. This venue has it all: Challenging trails, Fast straight paths, and a sprint finish at the Norwood School. Run it once and you will want to come back.

Benefit: The funds raised from this event will go to the Doug Wood Scholarship Fund. This annual award will be presented to a graduating male and female Northport High School athlete (chosen by the NHS director of athletics) to financially aide in their college goals.

Quality t-shirts to all pre-registered runners. Late and day of race applicants will receive t-shirts while supplies last.

Awards: Top 3 Male & Female Finishers, Top 3 Male & Female Masters Finishers, Males & Females in 5 Year Age Groups including 1-12.  First Male & Female receive commemorative artwork.

Post Race Activities: Generous Raffle including Grand Prize Airplane Tour of Manhattan. (Must be present to win) Refreshments available at end of race.

Timing & Results: www.start2finish.com

Directions: Take Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow Parkway North to last exit before the Sunken Meadow Park entrance.  Head west on Route 25A for approximately 3 miles.  Make a right just passed the strip mall (on the right) onto Norwood Road.  This road immediately goes up a steep hill, and about a half mile on the right will be the Norwood Road School.
